Welcome!

Capital City Church of God is affiliated with the Church of God Ministries in Anderson, Indiana. Our purpose as a church is the salvation of sinners, sanctification of believers, growth and perfection of the saints, preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the carrying out of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20), and the redemptive service to our community and its people.

Upon entering the doors of the church, it will not take you long to sense the feel of family. Our church is comprised of loving and dedicated members, representing different generations, who are faithful to the work of the Lord.  Now under new pastoral leadership, the CCCOG congregation of about 40 members is excited about our growth and the possibilities of our role in God's Kingdom business in Springfield.  At Capital City there are many ministries that are conducive to not only teaching the Word of God and outreach, but they are also opportunities for members to participate in the work of the church and to discover, exercise, and grow their talents and spiritual gifts.

OUR HISTORY

The church known as Capital City Church of God was first established in the home of Bro. Arnold and Sis Mary L. Waters in February of 1946 at 1924 East Stuart Street.  The Church was later reestablished at their home residence at 1515 East Reynolds in 1954.

On July 6, 1955, the first public meeting place was in a store front building located at 1713 East Adams Street.  The church was subsequently renamed to the Adams Street Church of God.  The first full time pastor of the church was Dr. Benjamin F. Reid.  In October of 1960, the church again moved location, this time to 1230 South 14th Street.  With the change in location, the church was then renamed to the 14th and Brown Street Church of God.

On Sunday, April 29, 1973 at the burning of the mortgage, the church went from being 14th and Brown Street Church of God to Capital City Church of God.  Even though the location of the church was unchanged, the name changed to reflect the community of which it was a part.  In November of 1992, Capital City Church of God moved to its present location of 2501 East Cook Street in Springfield, IL.
